If you make a purchase through EBay, and pay with Paypal, your purchase and your money is protected! There are a few steps you have to follow, but in the end if you don't get what you won, your money will be deposited back into your Paypal account by EBay.
This is a GREAT tool for buying tickets online from people you don't know.
Say you find somebody on a message board or craigslist or some other place, and you want to buy their ticket. Most often time the person with the tickets is hesitant to send the tickets before being paid, and the person buying them is hesitant to send the money before getting the tickets. And when meeting up in person is not a possibility, than I've found this EBay strategy to work flawlessly.
Just ask the person selling the tickets to set up an auction on EBay, and stage it in a way that nobody else would possibly swoop in and buy the tickets before you do. For example, you can have them do a "Buy it now or best offer" and just set the buy it now price at like $2,000 or another price nobody in their right mind would ever pay. Then have them email you the link and you can make a bid at face value and buy the tickets through EBay. You then pay through Paypal, and voila, the person selling the tickets has their money. And you have your money protected through EBay and Paypal, so in the nutsty case that your tickets are never shipped, at least you're covered.
You don't have to be all fancy with the buy it now or best offer either. I've done it where just the title was a little off, like "Concert Tickets," or you can do a straight up buy it now at face and email eachother the auction link right when its created.
However you decide to go about it, the tool remains helpful, and something I've grown to use over and over again successfully.
And if the person selling is unwilling to do this, than maybe they were trying to rip you off from the start?!? If they are worried about the few dollar fee, just offer to pay it, or chalk it up as cost of doing fair and safe business!
Good luck everybody!
